Artist's Description
ONeill Butte Rainbow features a double rainbow spilling over the South Rims majestic Mather Pont, seemingly coming to rest on pioneer Bucky ONeills namesake peak. During the summer monsoon season, such views are not entirely uncommon; but this particular rainbow lasted for a solid half hour. A rare luxury for a landscape photographer. After the anxiety of capturing the spectacle lifted, I could focus on more immediate surroundings. Thunder was booming off the canyon walls as the storm rotated around my vantage. The shifting light kept revealing new and wonderful vignettes beneath the rim. It was truly a sight to behold. This photograph has since been a personal favorite, and was selected for the book Lasting Light: 125 Years of Grand Canyon Photography, published by Northland Publishing in 2006.contact Mike for sizes larger than 8”x 10”.
